the practice of attempting to cause a person who is not heterosexual (= sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex) to become heterosexual by using psychoanalysis, techniques for changing behaviour, spiritual advice, etc.

Legislation to ban gay conversion therapy is to be debated in parliament next month.
